Scottish Water is in the process of drawing up plans to build a new pre-treatment facility at its Killylour Water Treatment Works in Dumfries and Galloway.
Scottish Water has already built a new water treatment works at Killylour alongside the old works. In recent months a testing programme has been taking place before putting the new works into service.
The testing process had identified that the new works is providing a very high standard of drinking water. It has been designed to produce 8.5 mega litres of water per day, almost double what can be produced by the old facility.
It has also identified that, in order to provide this additional amount of water, a pre-treatment facility requires to be installed. This will need to be housed in a separate new building within the existing site. Scottish Water is currently working on a design.
Scottish Water will submit a planning application to Dumfries and Galloway Council in the coming months.
Bill Elliot, Community Team Manager for Dumfries and Galloway, said:
“We are currently finalising the design of this pre-treatment facility and will present these plans at a further information event in Shawhead before submitting to the planning authority for approval.”
