Constructing Excellence publishes sustainability guide for construction SMEs

The cross-sector, cross-supply chain organisation, Constructing Excellence, has published a new guide to sustainability specifically aimed at SMEs in the UK construction sector.

"The SME’ Quick Guide to Sustainability" was written by the Constructing Excellence Sustainability Task Group as a simple way to create more understanding of the broader ideas of sustainable construction within SMEs. It is also intended to enable SMEs to engage with the sustainability agenda through construction, identify business benefits and opportunities and raise standards in the construction industry. The guide is focused upon small building and construction businesses.

Task Group Chair Dr Paul Toyne, current Commissioner at the London Sustainable Development Commission and former sustainability director of WSP and Bovis Lend Lease said:

“This Guide aims to give practical advice for small businesses involved in construction so that they can successfully navigate their way around sustainability to help them run a successful company.”

Other organisations represented on the task group include Astins, Balfour Beatty, the BRE, East Riding of Yorkshire Council, Ebm-papst UK Ltd, Heathrow Airport Ltd, FaulknerBrowns Architects, Kier, Knauf, LCMB, Mace Group Ltd, Polypipe, Room4 Consulting, Skanska, Waterman group PLC and Willmott Dixon
