A new UK Government framework has been launched which public sector organisations can access to reduce their water costs and consumption by 30%, through the multi-million pound AquaFund Grant Scheme.
The new public sector water licence is set to reduce the Government’s water bill by 30% per annum according to ADSM, the utility management specialists responsible for administering the AquaFund scheme.
The multi-million pound AquaFund grant scheme created to reduce water usage is funded by private equity.
AquaFund has five key objectives:
- reduce current UK water consumption by 250 million tonnes per annum;
- provide funding for a range of managed services;
- provide funding for the installation of state-of-the-art water saving equipment;
- deliver sustainable water supplies;
- and take 170,000 people out of water poverty in the world’s poorest countries.
A pan-European wide search was conducted to find the optimum grant funding source for the UK-led initiative, to ensure best value and maximum savings could be obtained for the public sector.
Prior to the launch, the grant model was extensively tested over a three year period in the NHS, University and Local Government sectors and exceeded the projected financial and environmental objectives.
The AquaFund Grant pays for all equipment and the managed services necessary to deliver substantial water and cost savings, over a period of five years - without the need for any investment from participating organisations. Private sector organisations can also apply for grants through AquaFund.
AquaFund, the only grant scheme of its kind in the UK, provides everything necessary for both public and private sector organisations to make water efficiencies and financial savings including; the full grant, consultancy services, site audits and state-of-the-art water saving technologies, together with water data and tariff analysis, bill validation services and on-going monitoring.
ADSM said that organisations accessing the fund will typically receive a grant of between £150,000-£600,000, and most will see their first water and cost savings within 12 weeks.
