Thames Water consults market on supplier capability for heat recovery from sewers

Thames Water has launched a consultation to obtain market information about the latest supplier capability and technology relating to heat extraction from sewers.

Sewage contains thermal energy; its temperature is generally between 10 and 20 °C, all year round, due to the large volumes of sewage the amount of energy contained in the sewage is vast. A proportion of the heat can be extracted and used for heating of nearby buildings and\or facilities. Typically the technology is used for buildings with a large and constant heat demand such as nursery homes, schools, gymnasiums, swimming pools.

The water company has launched the market consultation to obtain intelligence to inform its future strategy on heat recovery from sewers.
