Bristol Water showcases metering innovation trial

Bristol Water has showcased its innovation in the field of dynamic water metering at Venturefest, a European Green Capital event taking place in Bristol this week.

David Watts from Network Modelling is demonstrating the Dynamic District Meter Area Project alongside collaborators Robert Wright from Imperial College London and David Humphrey from Cla-Val.

Bristol Water has been working on the Dynamic District Meter Area (DDMA) project to develop new technology as part of a five-year collaboration.

DDMA is being tested in Bristol - the pioneering network management network enables the water company to monitor and meet water demand across the city by using advanced pressure, flow monitoring and leakage management.

The DDMA project has already been used to help limit the effects of a major water main burst in Bristol last September which could have led to around 4000 homes  being cut off. With a large area covered by the trial, Bristol Water were able to respond quickly and redirect flow by using reversed pressure and maintain water supply.
