Scotland targets UK and overseas markets for water and waste water innovation services

Scottish Enterprise, the body tasked with identifying and exploiting opportunities for Scotland's economic growth, is targeting the UK and overseas markets for Scottish companies' water and waste water innovation services and products.

Scottish Enterprise has gone out to tender with a three year contract potentially worth in excess of £1 million to appoint a supplier to deliver the Water and Waste Water Innovation Service starting in May 2015.

The new Water and Waste Water Innovation service is intended to coordinate access to a wide range of expertise and unlock opportunities by building relationships with utilities including Scottish Water and others.

The Service will also provide fore-sighting information on opportunities in the domestic and international market and offer enhanced access to facilities for test and demonstration of water technologies in Scotland. According to Scottish Enterprise, this will lead to increased innovation, collaboration and products getting to market faster. Scottish Enterprise said the service would also “encourage a cultural change from a sector where idea generation is required but is currently impenetrable to a small company due to the risks involved, to one that embraces innovation while meeting or exceeding UK and International standards.”

The new Service will provide a single access point to ensure businesses access appropriate support from the relevant agencies as well as linking with existing research and academic networks in Scotland.

The service will also specifically contribute to taking near-market research developed by both SME's and academia in this commercially lucrative sector and translating it into tangible opportunities for Scottish SME's.

Scottish Water said the new Service would work intensively with SME's to provide technical and commercial support and encourage them to come forward with technology innovations. This would in turn lead to new and improved products and services that can be funded and delivered and taken to final test and validation. Market opportunities will also be identified, both in the UK and internationally, and SMEs would helped to access these markets.

The contract is worth between £816 K  and £1.16m in total over the three year period.

Deadline for receipt of tenders or requests to participate is 26th February.
