DEFRA Announces River Basin Planning Guidance

In the Ministerial Forward to the 81 page report, Ian Pearson MP, Minister of State for Climate Change and the Environment states:  "The Water framework Directive sets a framework which should provide substantial benefits for the long term sustainable management of our waters.

At the heart of the Directive is a new river basin planning system which will enable us to manage our waters in a more holistic and transparent way, following the principles of better regulation.  Following consultation on draft guidance, DEFRA and the Welsh Assembly Government are issuing this guidance to the Environment Agency on river basin planning, setting out their expectations in relation to the principles and key steps of the river basin planning process and the content of the documents which the Agency must produce."
