FLOODING IN YORKThe House of Commons Public Accounts Committee is warning that the Government is simply not doing enough to protect the UK’s current housing stock from floods or stepping in to prevent new homes being built on flood plains.

The £120 million Oxford flood alleviation scheme, which will reduce flood risk to homes, businesses, and transport in Oxford and the surrounding area, has moved a step closer with the final tranche of £55 million in partnership funding now secured.

Air Warrington flood schemeMore than 2,000 Warrington homes and businesses will benefit from the town’s multi-million pound flood defence scheme, officially opened today by Environment Agency Chief Executive, Sir James Bevan and the town’s Mayor, Cllr. Les Morgan.

The Environment Agency (EA) is to make an investment of more than £20 million in renovated and new defences along sections of the north bank of the Humber and the River Hull.

Work has started on the £38.3 million tidal barrier that will help protect Ipswich from future storms.
