Extra flood protection for Milton Hill Residents in the Milton Hill area of Weston-super-Mare are now at a significantly reduced risk of flooding following the completion of a £2.1m flood alleviation project in September.
Wessex Water increased the sewerage capacity in the area by constructing an 850 cubic metre storage tank to hold stormwater during times of intense rainfall.
Starting in January this year, the work also involved the installation of 140 metres of new sewer and the upsizing of 250 metres of existing sewer.
Wessex Water project manager, Andrew Palmer, said: "Flooding in Milton Hill has not been a regular occurrence but significant when it has happened. The new infrastructure we have installed will protect residents from the risk of sewers bursting during stormy weather.”
The work is just one of a number of schemes happening in Weston-super-Mare to alleviate flooding risk.
