United Utilities has submitted a planning application for the first phase of a ten-year plan that will transform how the wastewater of more than a million people in Greater Manchester is treated.

A lightning strike at 7.20pm last night which hit an anaerobic digestion tank at Severn Trent Green Power’s AD facility in Cassington, Oxfordshire caused the gases within it to ignite and explode, resulting in a huge fireball.

Yorkshire Water will hold a supplier day in Leeds on 30 March to allow businesses in the wastewater sector to showcase how they can help the utility tackle a number of challenges it faces in sludge management and treatment.

Severn Trent Water has applied to the Environment Agency to vary its existing environmental permit for its Stoke Bardolph Sewage Treatment Works – enabling it to construct a new thermal hydrolysis plant (THP), associated combustion/thermal plant and biogas upgrade plant.
