Hyder to provide critical Devon flood risk management services

Hyder Consulting UK’s Rivers and Coastal Team has secured a contract with Devon County Council to provide flood risk management services.

The Council plans to build a distributor road around Cullompton, in mid Devon, to ease traffic congestion and improve air quality in the historic market town. The route options for the proposed distributor road all cross the floodplain of the River Culm. Hyder has been commissioned to undertake detailed hydraulic modelling to assess flood risk impacts, inform selection of the preferred route option and identify flood protection and mitigation measures.

The project provides an exciting opportunity for Hyder to share knowledge and expertise with Devon’s Lead Local Flood Authority, and to help ensure that the distributor road does not increase flood risk.

Neil Evans, Hyder’s Rivers and Coastal Technical Director, commented:

“This is an important project for Cullompton and we look forward to working closely with Devon County Council and the Environment Agency to develop a sustainable flood risk management solution.”
