The Consumer Council for Water (CCW) has gone out to tender with a contract for smart metering longitudinal research with an estimated value of £400,000 including VAT.
CCW is looking to understand the experiences and attitudes of bill payers and their households towards smart meter information and their water use through changing external and household contexts over an extended timeframe.
Recent CCW research found that many customers are unclear about what type of water meter they have. For this research project, CCW only want to include customers in households which already have a smart water meter.
Current estimated start and end contract dates are 15 October 2026 to 31 March 2027 with the potential for further possible extension options up to 14 October 2030. The initial year will run until the end of the financial year, then yearly extensions will be granted if funding is approved and research is still required.
Deadline for submission of enquiries about the tender is 12:00pm on 26 August 2026 and deadline for requests to participate is 5:00pm on 2 September 2026. Estimated contract award decision date is 11 September 2026.
CCW is looking to invite up to six suppliers to tender for the work.
