Northumbrian Water has awarded the final Lot in a contract for the supply of energy and gas across around 1,853 operational sites which went out to tender with a total estimated value of £780 million (inc VAT).

The water company went out to tender with the major AMP8/9 contract in October 2025. Northumbrian was looking to appoint a partner/s to support its energy supply for current and growing requirements for business services over the next ten years for the import and export of electricity and gas across ~1,853 operational sites.
The contract was tendered in the the following Lots;
- Lot 1 - Power - Import & Export (HH/NHH/UMS)
- Lot 2 - Gas - Import & Export
- Lot 3 - Meter Operator Services (HH)
In February 2026 Northumbrian Water awarded contracts for both Lot 1 and 2 respectively to Engie Power Ltd.
The water company has now awarded the contract for Lot 3, which has an estimated value of £1.8 million including VAT, to Energy Assets Ltd.
Scope of the contract covers
LOT 3 - MOP & DC/DA
Requirement is for a supplier to appoint a Meter Operator (MOP) provider to provide Data Aggregation and Data Collection (DA/DC) Services for any new or existing half-hourly electricity supply points. The MOP agreement will cover the installation, maintenance, and management of energy meters, ensuring accurate usage recording, proper upkeep, and regulatory compliance. As of July 2025, NWG is currently overseeing 515 HH MPANs.
In February 2026 Macquarie Asset Management announced that its managed funds had entered into an agreement to acquire 100 per cent of Energy Assets Group - the transaction is expected to reach financial close in 2026, following the satisfaction of customary closing conditions and regulatory approvals.
Energy Assets Group (EAG) manages a portfolio of 1.8 million advanced and smart meters. EAG also installs, owns and operates last-mile utility connections, primarily serving industrial and commercial customers. It currently owns 148,000 grid connections, plus a contracted order book where it will invest to build new connections across the UK.
