Southend-on-Sea City Council has awarded a contract for water hygiene testing (Legionella Control) to Northumbrian Water with an estimated value of £780,000 (excluding VAT).

The Council had gone out to tender for suitably qualified and experienced contractors to undertake regular water hygiene testing (Legionella Control) in accordance with the approved code of practice and guidance for the control of Legionella bacteria in water systems ACOP L8. .
Scope of the contract awarded under Lot 1 covered the appointment of a single contractor to carry out risk assessments, regular water sampling and testing, and treatment and remedial works required to the Council’s public buildings including toilets, parks, ponds and fountains.
Initial contract term is 4 years until 31st March 2029, with an option to extend for a further 2 years until 31st March 2031.
Northumbrian Water were among seven contractors in the bidding for the work.
A separate Lot covering out daily site service visits between 1st March to 31st October and twice weekly between 1st November to 28th February to the Council’s outdoor interactive water feature at City Beach Marine Parade , with a 1 hour call out requirement to quickly resolve operational failures was not awarded on the grounds that no tenders or requests to participate were received or all were rejected.
