United Utilities is seeking input from suppliers as it develops its strategy for the electrical repair of motors and Variable Speed Drives.

The water company is currently reviewing the strategy for the electrical repair of motors and Variable Speed Drives
The Scope of Work includes all works predominantly associated with repair, rewind and overhaul of electric motors and for the repair of Variable Speed Drives.
United Utilities said that by undertaking pre market research, it can then evaluate the current market capability and identify whether it is commercially viable to put in place multi supplier and multi lot arrangements if market capabilities vary.
Motors repairs would include the following areas:
- Rewind, repair and overhaul services
- Strip reports
- Rewind & overhaul of Induction motors up to and including 250 kW
- Overhaul only of Induction motors up to and including 250 kW
- Rewind & overhaul of brake-motors up to and including 22 kW
- Overhaul only of break-motors up to and including 22 kW
- Provision of re-engineered parts
- Installation & removal of motors and associated equipment
- Repair, reassembly and testing of motors
- Testing of the motor and load testing facilities
- Commissioning of equipment.
Variable Speed Drive repairs would include the following areas:
- VSD repairs for 400kW
- VSD inspections and reports
- Repair, reassembly and testing of VSDs
- Re-installation and testing of the VSDs
VSD original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) include ABB, Hitachi, Mitsubishi, Toshiba, Vatech, Heenan/FKI, Telemecanique, Siemens and Schneider and Vacon.
United Utilities would also be looking for the provision of product and technical support including spare parts availability.
At this stage the PIN is a request for information only - estimated publication date of a formal Contract Notice is early 2022.
