Thames Water tenders £124.5m sewerage management services framework contract

Thames Water has gone out to tender with a sewerage management services framework contract for sewer rehabilitation activities worth an estimated £124.5 million in total.

The water company is looking to put a framework agreement in place for a range of sewer rehabilitation works and services for all gravity sewers and pressurised waste water pipes across the entire TW region.

The utility has 109,000 km of underground sewer pipes across its waste water operating area, the majority of which have been in the ground for many years.

Over time, the structure and lining of sewers or rising mains degrades, gets damaged and eroded away, leading to the need for repair or replacement.

Thames said the framework is being tendered in the following 5 Lots to reflect the variations in volume and complexity of appropriate rehabilitation services for different waste water assets and operational situations.

Lot 1: Structural Lining and Patch Repairs

Activities include no dig rehabilitation of sewers by cast in place pipe lining or patching with a structural or semi-structural liner or patch. Flow management and CCTV surveys will need to be utilised where required.

Lot 2: Leak Tight Lining and Associated Manhole Sealing

Activities include rehabilitation of sewers using leak tight sewer liner or coating techniques and material sealing of manhole chamber, inspection chambers or other subterranean civils structures in the line or directly associated with the sewer line.

Lot 3: No/Low Dig Asset Replacement

Activities include to structurally replace underground sewers by way of on-line or off-line technique utilising no or minimal dig approaches.

Lot 4: Rising mains/Pressure Mains

Activities include rehabilitation by way of lining, coating, or other applicable technique of pressure/pumping main sewers using no or minimal dig approaches.

Lot 5: Complex sewer rehabilitation (including sewers crossing railways)

Activities will include the rehabilitation of gravity sewers in complex locations, such as under railways, runways or major highways. Rehabilitation of sewers in complex access situations such as deep or large diameter sewers. Relining or stabilising sewers using mixtures of techniques such a lining with grouting or tapered liners. Stabilisation of sewers in severe structural or service condition (including under railways).

Initial term for all contracts will be for 3 years with options to extend up to a maximum term of 8 years.
