Thames Water has awarded a number of AMP7 construction work contracts for the delivery of its AMP capital programmes for infrastructure and non-infrastructure projects, potentially extending to AMP8, worth up to an estimated £700 million in total.

The water company has procured design and build delivery capability for both infrastructure and non-infrastructure projects for its underground network of water mains and sewage and all above ground plant, equipment, structures and process.
The work was tendered in two separate Lots.
Scope of work under Lot 1 for Non-Infrastructure Works, Non-infrastructure – nominally all above ground plant, equipment, structures and process across all Thames Water operational areas - includes:
- refurbishment, replacement and provision of new potable ground and surface water production assets such as enhanced slow sand filter performance, disinfection,
- surge protection
- chemical dosing
- supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA)
- run-to-waste facilities
- cartridge filters and UV
- increased power resilience
- new service reservoirs
- inspection and maintenance of existing service and storage reservoirs
- refurbishment, replacement and provision of new wastewater treatment facilities such as inlet works
- stormwater storage
- event duration monitors
- settlement tanks
- biological treatment, tertiary treatment, sludge treatment including thermal hydrolysis process (THP)
- digester roof replacement
- combined heat and power (CHP)
- chemical dosing
- phosphorous removal
Scope of work under Lot 2 for infrastructure – nominally the underground network of water mains and sewage broadly extends from rehabilitation, replacement and provision of new sewers and potable water pipelines to inspection and maintenance of aqueducts and tunnels. It will also include refurbishment, replacement and provision of new pumping station assets.
Both Lots will run for an initial period of 5 years for the AMP7 2020-25 investment programme. Subject to satisfactory ongoing performance, Thames Water could extend both Lots for a maximum further 5 years AMP8 2025-30 regulatory period.
Barhale Ltd, Galliford Try Infrastructure Ltd, Kier Infrastructure & Overseas Ltd and Morrison Utility Services Ltd have all been awarded contracts under both Lots.
Bath-based firm Bridges Electrical, Costain Ltd, Glan Agua (UK) Ltd, Mott MacDonald Bentley Ltd and MWH Treatment Ltd have all been awarded contracts under Lot 1 Non-Infrastructure.
Clancy Docwra and J Browne Construction Co. Ltd have both won contracts under Lot 2 Infrastructure.
