The Association of North East Councils has gone out to tender with a major £300 million contract for water and sewerage services.

Trading as the North East Procurement Organisation (NEPO), the Association of North East Councils, Is seeking tenders for water retail services. Potential suppliers must hold a valid water supply and sewerage licence with the appropriate retail authorisation, as issued by Ofwat.
The scope of the framework agreement includes the provision of automatic meter reading and associated services and systems, together with provisions for assisting in the reduction of consumption and supporting users efficiency schemes.
Estimated total value of the contract is put at £300 million
The tender for the framework, which will be a sole supplier framework contract with one lot, replaces a recent procurement exercise that was abandoned due to Covid-19.
Contract duration consists of 3 months implementation, followed by a 2year supply contract commencing 1 April 2021, with the option to extend for a further 2 years.
The framework agreement will be available to all current and future NEPO associate members.
NEPO, which is a Central Purchasing Body, also intends to make the resulting agreement to a wide range of other organisations, including:
- government departments and their agencies
- non-departmental public bodies
- central government
- NHS bodies
- local authorities
- emergency services
- coastguard emergency services
- educational establishments
- registered social landlords and registered charities
