Northern Ireland Water has awarded two separate contracts for the supply of chemicals used in water and waste water treatment plants with an estimated total value of around £6.2 million.
The contracts, which were tendered in a total of 30 Lots, were for the supply and delivery of general bulk chemicals for use over an 8 month period to 31 December 2020, and the supply and delivery of coagulant chemicals.
The water company has procured a wide range of chemicals under the contracts, including liquid chlorine, liquid oxygen, Sodium Hypochlorite , Sulphuric Acid, Caustic Soda, Orthophosphate and coagulants.
Belfast-based company Brenntag UK Ltd was awarded a significant majority of the contracts. More often than not Brenntag was the only company in the bidding, or one of only 2 suppliers to tender.
Central Chemicals Supplies, Chemviron and Wilson Salt were the other companies who were awarded Lots under the contracts.
