Essex County Council has launched a market engagement exercise to help it understand what options are available to generate income from landfill gas.
The Council is inviting expressions of interest from suppliers who want to participate and are willing to share information about their approach to the provision of an environmentally compliant solution including, supply, installation and delivering revenue through electricity generation.
The Local Authority has an obligation to manage the Bellhouse closed landfill site in accordance with Environment Agency permitting.
This has previously been undertaken via a concession contract for energy generation including the full management of the gas field. Essex County Council are now looking to engage with the market to shape the future strategy for the management of the site.
The aim is to seek market intelligence in regard to the most economically advantageous arrangements on the site whilst fulfilling the landfill gas management requirements under the permit.
The site currently has a gas flow rate of approx 600 m3/hr and approx 40 % CH4. ECC are in possession of a 3 000 kVA connection agreement with UKPN.
Deadline for suppliers to register an interest is midday on 23rd August 2019 – click here to access the Prior Information Notice
