Thames Water has awarded several contracts for Phase 2 AMP 6 of the Counters Creek Flood Alleviation Scheme.
The water company has appointed companies drawn from its AMP5 Network register of contractors for the provision of design and build construction services.
Phase 2 of the Counters Creek Flood Alleviation Scheme consists of the installation of FLIP devices - small self-contained pumping units normally installed to pump all the flows from domestic properties into the main sewer. The number of properties to be protected by FLIP devices is likely to be between 200 and 400.
It also includes approximately 8-10 small sewerage schemes covering sewer upsizing, small pumping stations and storage and interception chambers mainly located in highways. Some SUDs (Sustainable Urban Drainage systems) may also be required like construction of permeable surfaces, storage and provision of water butts.
The small sewerage schemes will be implemented where these are more viable than the installation of a large number of FLIP devices in one road or where a FLIP device is not suitable - for example for a large building with a large impermeable area.
Barhale Ltd, Morrison Utilities Services and Galifordtry Construction Ltd have all won contracts.
