United Utilities has gone out to tender with an AMP6 contract worth £1.2 million for leak detection apparatus for plastics.
The water company is looking for suppliers capable of providing a leakage correlator which can operate on all common pipe materials - but specifically which can outperform the following criteria on MDPE pipe:
- Correlation distance of >75 m on MDPE water pipes, to within 1 m accuracy and with a processing time of under 2 minutes.
- The units must be easily portable by a single person.
- The units must come with their own software that is either Windows Laptop, or Toughbook compatible.
- The units must have a robust noise cancelling system, to enable their use in high background noise environments.
- The units must not be reliant on attachment to a metal pipe fitting for accurate correlation.
- The units must be able to detect leaks in a non-invasive manner.
The framework agreement will run for an initial 3 years, with 2 further one year extension options. Time-limit for receipt of expressions of interest is 28th July, while the time limit for receipt of requests for documents or for accessing documents is 6th August.
