Scottish Water has gone out to tender with a contract for sludge and sewage services worth up to £42 million. .Update 7th July: Scottish Water has announced that the scope requires further review and a revised notice will be issued as soon as possible.
Scottish Water is looking to appoint contractors to provide sludge treatment, transportation, recycling/utilisation and other waste services across the Scottish mainland and Islands to deliver both conventional and innovative solutions.
The water company will appoint up to fifty suppliers to the framework agreement , which is divided into 4 Lots as follows:
- Lot 1: Wastewater Sludge Treatment, Transport & Recycling Services
- Lot 2: Water Sludge Uplift, Transport & Recycling Services
- Lot 3: Skips, Containers & Other Waste Collection & Recycling/Disposal Services
- Lot 4: Supplementary Water & Wastewater Liquid Sludge Tankering based on geographical areas.
Estimated value of the contract, which will run for 4 years with the option to extend for a further 1+1 years. is put at between £28 million to £42 million.
Scottish Water reserves the right to split each lot by area (generally North, South, East & West), and smaller sub-regions or award pan Scotland. Bidders for all 4 Lots will also need to address the long term energy and carbon footprint issues.
