United Utilities goes out to tender for new 13km water main

United Utilities has gone out to tender for a new 13km water main.

The contract is for the design, construction and commissioning of a new 13 km water main pipeline from Bridekirk Water Treatment Works to Quarry Hill Service Reservoir in West Cumbria.

The contract is part of the work programme for the Thirlmere Transfer West Cumbria Water Supplies Project which includes the design, construction and commission of the following:

  • 32 km of raw water aqueduct (800 mm — 1 200 mm).
  • 37 km of new water mains (300 mm — 500 m) including three new pumping stations delivering 15Ml/d.
  • 20 km of water mains refurbishment using slipline technology (300 mm — 500 mm).
  • 1 Nr new WTW — 90Ml/d abstraction.
  • 3 Nr new Service Reservoirs.
  • 1 Nr Service Reservoir refurbishment.
  • Decommission 5 Nr Service Reservoirs.
  • Decommission 3 Nr Water Treatment Works.
