CH2M HILL awarded contract for East of England coastal flood defence package

CH2M HILL has been awarded a contract by the Environment Agency to provide consultancy and support services for the delivery of the Lincolnshire, Norfolk, Suffolk and Essex Coastal Package.

In this role CH2M HILL will provide technical support for design, consenting and approvals and act as the Environmental Clerk of Works and ECC Supervisor.  The projects include a three year delivery package in Lincolnshire, which will see a potential investment of £18 million over three years to help protect the coastline, and a further one year for Eccles to Winterton in Norfolk. Work under the package will include data collection, programming works, environmental monitoring, performance monitoring and analysis of erosion patterns and carbon usage.

The contract follows last month’s award by the Environment Agency of the Thames Estuary Asset Management 2100 (TEAM2100) contract, where CH2M HILL was named as delivery partner for the largest single flood defence contract awarded by the Agency.

HILL has a strong existing relationship with the Environment Agency and an extensive portfolio in UK flood risk management, having previously been involved in managed realignment and coastal defence programmes in Norfolk and Lincolnshire.

Gareth Heatley, CH2M HILL’s Managing Director for Water, Europe, said: We are delighted to be working for the Environment Agency in helping deliver these projects. These coastal packages are extremely important for the local communities in these areas and will protect our coastline whilst providing a boost to this engineering sector in the UK.”

Employee-owned CH2M HILL is one of the world’s leading consulting, design, design-build, operations, and programme management companies serving government, civil, industrial and energy clients, employing over 26,000 people worldwide.

CH2M HILL has operated in the UK for over 20 years. Its European headquarters are in London and it employs over 3,400 people in the UK. The firm is working on some of the major infrastructure programmes in the UK, including the Thames Tideway Tunnels.
