Northern Ireland Water has experienced major problems this week with water supply as a result of the freezing temperatures.

United Utilities is starting the the third phase of a major scheme to improve water supplies across Cheshire.

Organisations representing utilities and their contractors have expressed serious concerns about plans by the Department of Transport to introduce harsher penalties for utilities who overrun their time limits on disruptive road works.

Scottish Water has been fined £5,000 after failing to comply with their licence to discharge sewage effluent from Durris Sewage Treatment Works into the Durris burn, and failing to comply with an improvement notice.

Water UK calls for strong competition framework

Water UK, the organisation which represents all UK water and wastewater companies at national and EU level,is calling on the Government to put a formal competition governance framework in place for the water sector.

United Utilities is facing the prospect of mass legal action over November flooding in Cumbria.

The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) has announced the date for a public inquiry into Thames Water’s Water Resources Management Plan.

First Thames Tideway Tunnels contract awarded

The first major construction contract for the London Tideway Tunnels scheme has been awarded to the MVB joint venture which brings together Morgan Est, Bachy Soletanche and Vinci Construction Grands Projets.

Yorkshire Water announced this morning that the company has accepted Ofwat’s Final Determination .

Northumbrian Water has confirmed that Heidi Mottram has been appointed as Chief Executive Officer with effect from 1 April 2010 when John Cuthbert retires.
