As national Water Saving Week gets underway, Veolia Water is inviting its 3.2million customers to do their bit for the environment and save money into the bargain, by saving a litre of water a day.
To make the task a little easier, the Herts-based company is offering a range of free and heavily-discounted water saving gadgets to everyone visiting its website at
www.veoliawater.co.uk/savewater.
Mike Pocock, Veolia Water’s head of strategic planning, who leads the company’s work on water efficiency, said:
“We live in one of the driest areas in the country, with less rainfall than parts of the Middle East, but we actually use more water per person than any other part of the UK – around 175 litres a day, or up to four tonnes per family every week.
“With our population growing and more demand being placed on our existing supplies, we all need to play our part if we are going to avoid water shortages in the future.
“We also know that heating water, for baths or in washing machines, accounts for around 30 per cent of the average fuel bill, so saving water also means lower fuel bills and a smaller carbon footprint.
“The message is simple: save water, save energy, and save money”.
Veolia Water Central is the UK’s largest water supply only company and part of Veolia Water UK, the parent company for three water companies and commercial businesses, supplying more than 3.5 million customers with around 825 million litres of water each day.
Water Saving Week 2010 takes place from 12th–18th June 2010. Supported by Defra, the week seeks to raise awareness of the benefits of water saving at home, in businesses and in schools and to help consumers rethink their attitude to water and realise the importance of being ‘water wise’.
