In a written statement to the House of Commons issued this morning, Energy Secretary Chris Huhn  has announced plans to expand the UK’s nuclear power generation capability and shelve plans for a tidal barrage across the river Severn.

The Government is expected to announce today that the proposed Severn Barrage scheme to generate renewable energy is to be scrapped.

Thames Water, Britain's biggest water and sewerage firm, has awarded a contract to Black & Veatch to carry out up to £100million of essential work to improve and maintain its sewage and water treatments plants in the Thames Valley region over the next five years.
