Yorkshire Water is starting work on the latest phase of £16.7 million mains upgrade to improve Sheffield’s water pipe network.

Major flood defence works in Wales completed

Environment Agency Wales has completed a programme of major improvement works to upgrade local flood defences. The Agency said that thousands of people in four North Wales villages would now be better protected from floods. 

Today WaterBriefing is  publishing an Executive Briefing on what has been described as the "biggest change in responsibility for sewerage services since 1937" – the forthcoming transfer of responsibility for private sewers and lateral drains to water and sewerage companies.

Communities in the North East will benefit from a £2.4 million package of schemes to help to protect them against the risk of flooding.

York to get new £16M Water Treatment Works

Yorkshire Water has announced plans to build a new water treatment works in York. Planning permission for the development, which will be constructed within the boundaries of the existing works off Landing Lane in Acomb, was unanimously granted at a York council meeting last Wednesday.

 

In the week when the coalition government has announced its controversial proposal to sell off England’s forests, the IUCN is calling for more resources to be dedicated to protecting “invaluable forest wealth” and to restoring degraded forest landscapes.

MITIE launches £10m Entrepreneurial Fund

MITIE, the FTSE 250 strategic outsourcing company, has announced the launch of the ‘MITIE Entrepreneurial Programme’, commencing with its first £10M fund to back management teams with innovative ideas for starting
mutually owned businesses in the United Kingdom. 

 The Costain Board has this morning made a “significantly enhanced” proposal for Mouchel which values the consultancy at £175 million.

May Gurney, the infrastructure support services company providing essential maintenance and enhancement services to clients in the public and regulated sectors, has announced this morning that it has acquired Turriff Group Limited one of Scotland's largest utility infrastructure maintenance companies, for a cash consideration of up to £13.6 million.

A Co Tyrone Company has been fined £12,500 at Omagh Magistrates’ Court  for a water pollution offence.
