South West Water recently received planning approval and has started work on a first time waste water treatment scheme that will dramatically improve the quality of the coastal waters in Boscastle, Bossiney and Tintagel. The company has launched a dedicated website to keep people up-to-date with the construction of the scheme.
Mike Court, South West Water's Project Manager, said:
"This is the first time we have created a website like this. We know there is a great deal of interest in this scheme locally and we hope that people find it a useful way to keep informed about the latest developments."
The scheme for Boscastle, Bossiney and Tintagel is required under the European Union's Urban Waste Water Treatment Directive. To date South West Water's Clean Sweep scheme has removed over 250 crude waste water outfalls around the South West coastline to improve the quality of the region's bathing waters.
As well as the waste water treatment works, the scheme includes constructing five pumping stations connected by eight kilometres of sewers. The waste water treatment works will provide preliminary and secondary level treatment. The scheme is being supported by South West Water's partners BAM Nuttall and Pell Frischmann.
