Shortlist finalised for £3bn Thames Water AMP6 alliance

Thames Water has drawn up the final shortlist for the new alliance to deliver its AMP6 investment programme, worth up to £3 billion.

The alliance will plan and construct schemes for Thames Water’s investment programme for 2015-2020.

Five joint ventures are still in the running to be design and build contractors, with three consultants left bidding for one place as programme manager.

It is understood that a joint venture of Amec and May Gurney along with KUV Water – a team including Kier, URS and VolkerFitzpatrick – are now out of the running to be design and build partners.

AECOM, Jacobs and Mott MacDonald are no longer in the race to be programme manager. Two firms are still vying to be technology and innovation provider – AECOM and IBM.

The alliance board will be formed of seven members. One member will be from Thames Water, four from D & B contractors, one consultant programme manager and one technology and innovation provider.

The working principles of the company’s AMP6 alliance represent a big change from past delivery models. They include a joint team working with an integrated supply chain, boosting safety and efficiency and making sure solutions delivered are sustainable and value for money in the future.

The AMP6 alliance will get involved early in shaping Thames Water’s business plan for the next five-year period.

A spokesperson for Thames Water has said this stage of the procurement is for the “top tier” of the alliance, adding that “there will still be opportunity for other contractors/consultants to work for the alliance.”

Under Thames Water’s new delivery model, potential suppliers will have the opportunity to gain up to 12 years of work if they align effectively with the alliance’s shared values and business objectives.

‘Early engagement’ alliance agreements are expected to be announced in April.
