United Utilities is inviting residents in parts of Cheshire to learn more about the latest phases of work that are due to be carried out on the Vyrnwy aqueduct that will help to safeguard water supplies for decades to come.

The Vyrnwy aqueduct transports drinking water from Lake Vyrnwy in Wales to a million customers across Cheshire and Merseyside. A £260 million investment to upgrade 110km of drinking water pipes through the Vyrnwy Aqueduct Modernisation Programme (VAMP) started in 2023 and is due to be complete in 2028.
Work is currently underway between Tarpoley and Norton, upgrading 52.8Km of pipeline - customer water supplies will remain uninterrupted while the work is carried out.
United Utilities has organised five events for the community to find out more information about the project between now and the beginning of May.
The work is part of the company’s £13 billion-plus spend to protect and enhance over 500km of rivers, lakes and bathing waters during to 2025-30 AMP8 investment period.
