Affinity Water joins Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures framework

Affinity Water has joined a growing number of organisations committed to assessing and disclosing their impacts and dependencies on nature through the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) framework.

The TNFD provides guidance for businesses to identify, manage and report on nature-related risks and opportunities in the same way the TCFD (Taskforce on Climate-related Financial Disclosures) supports climate-related reporting.

By becoming a TNFD Adopter, Affinity Water is signalling its intent to align with the framework and begin incorporating nature-related insights into its future disclosures. The company plans to publish its third TNFD-aligned report in respect of its 2026 financial year.

Luke Waterman, Natural Capital Manager, at Affinity Water, said:

“Our water supplies depend on healthy ecosystems, so protecting and restoring nature is imperative when managing risk and delivering value for our customers. By becoming a TNFD Adopter, we’re strengthening how we measure and report our impact on the natural environment and taking an important step toward more transparent, nature-positive decision-making.”

Affinity Water joins Northern Ireland Water, Severn Trent, and United Utilities as part of a growing group of UK water companies adopting the TNFD framework. Globally, fewer than ten water utilities are currently listed as TNFD Adopters, including international peers such as SABESP, Aegea Saneamento, and Miya Water, all taking proactive steps to embed nature considerations into corporate reporting and governance.

The next cohort of TNFD Adopters will be recognised during COP30, the UN Climate Conference currently taking place in Belém, Brazil, this November.
