Scottish Water is getting ready to start work on a £2 million upgrade of the sewer in Airdrie to support a new housing development and reduce the risk of future sewer flooding.

The project will be delivered by the publicly owned utility’s commercial subsidiary Scottish Water Horizons and MacKenzie Construction - Scottish Water Horizons will begin setting up a site compound for the project today.
The £2 million project to upgrade the waste water infrastructure, which includes upsizing the local sewer, will support a new housing development and reduce the risk of future sewer flooding in the Glenmavis area of Airdrie,
The upgrade will be carried out in three phases:
Phase 1 - Construct a 107m long, 1050mm diameter pipe
Phase 2 - Implement a 168m, 150mm diameter, reinforcement sewer; plus, a 220m long, 225mm diameter, reinforcement sewer along Coatbridge Road and Glenmavis Road
Phase 3 - Construct a 50m length, 525mm diameter, reinforcement storage pipe
The project which will see the installation of nearly 500 metres of new pipework will take approximately nine months to complete.
