Southern Water invests nearly £2m to improve water quality in West Sussex

Work to improve water quality, reduce storm overflows and protect the environment in Cuckfield and the River Ouse is set to begin at the end of SOUTHERN WATER LOGO 350The project will involve contractor GTb, which is a joint venture between Galliford Try Environment and Binnies UK Ltd installing new equipment at Cuckfield Wastewater Treatment Works.

Work includes building additional storm storage which will allow more wastewater to be stored on site before it is treated and means it will be treated to a higher standard.

The project, which will last for around nine months, is one of many examples of how Southern Water is investing £2 billion between 2020 and 2025 to improve environmental performance.

Project Manager for Southern Water, Robin Woodward, said:

“We know how important it is to protect and enhance water quality and our precious environment across the areas we serve. These vital improvements at Cuckfield add to the other investments we’re making in West Sussex.”

Stuart Whisby, Project Manager for GTb, added:

“We are pleased to be working collaboratively with Southern Water on this project to help improve the River Ouse’s water quality and meet new Environment Agency targets.  The work we are doing will help protect the area around Cuckfield.”
