South East Water reaches major milestone in £8m Arlington WTW expansion

South East Water’s £8 million expansion of its Arlington Water Treatment Works has reached a major milestone following the installation of its brand new state-of-the-art control centre.

The control centre is key to the operation of the site. It measures the raw water taken from Arlington Reservoir and ensures that water passes through the many complex process which turn it into crystal clear, top quality drinking water.

The company has also replaced a number of pumps which have been in use at the East Sussex works for 70 years. The new pumps move 17.4 million litres of freshly treated drinking water every day out of the treatment works to customers’ taps.

Paul Beaumont, Project Manager for South East Water, said:

“Thanks to the hard work of the team on site the upgrade is progressing extremely well.

“It’s not easy upgrading a site which remains operational, but it’s important we keep it running so drinking water continues to flow to the 80,000 people Arlington Water Treatment Works supplies each day.

“The installation of the new pumps and state-of-the-art control centre is a key leap forward in the million project.

“We anticipate the scheme will complete in November 2021.”

The project forms part of the company’s £433 million investment programme between 2020 and 2025.
