Welsh Water to start work on £23m water network scheme

Welsh Water is getting ready to start work on a £23 million scheme for the Rhondda Fach water network between Maerdyand Pontypridd.

The work is part of a £130 million nationwide investment between 2016 and 2020 by the not for profit utility company, Welsh Water, on its water network.

With some parts of the network nearing the end of its operational life, the investment in the area will see around 54km of water mains either replaced or cleaned.

The work, which is set to start in early September, will be carried in phases- the first phase of the work will be carried out between Maerdy and Tylorstown.

Areas that will benefit from the investment include Maerdy, Ferndale, Tylorstown, Ynyshir, Porth, Treforest and Pontypridd.

David Taylor, Head of Water Assets from Welsh Water said:

“Between 2015 and 2020 Welsh Water will be investing £1.7 billion in its water and waste water network to make sure we deliver the best service possible for our customers. As part of this, we will be investing £23 million on the water network between Maerdy and Pontypridd as we continue to work to improve the quality of our drinking water for customers, to ensure they receive clean and fresh water for many years to come.
