Severn Trent to invest £1m in Malvern sewer flood defence scheme

Severn Trent Water is set to invest a further £1 million in Malvern to stamp out sewer floods.

The water company is investing in the scheme to help prevent sewer flooding in Malvern as part of a wider multi-million pound project to improve the water and sewer network in the area.

Senior programme engineer, Ian Woodward, commented:

“The sewer pipes in Malvern have served the community for many years, but are now coming to the end of their useful life. This has resulted in a series of burst pipes in recent years, leading to properties suffering from sewer flooding and pollution in the local area. This is not acceptable and we’re determined to prevent it.”

“Our contract partners NMCNomenca, who are carrying out the work on our behalf, will be installing nearly a mile of new sewer pipes and making improvements to the local sewage pumping station to improve its performance.”

“We’ve already begun our work to improve the water supply network in Malvern, so this work will help to ensure the town has a modern water and sewer network able to cope with the increasing demands placed on it.”

The sewer scheme is expected to start on 19 September and is planned to be completed before Christmas 2016.
