Northumbrian Water to host inaugural industry diversity event

A brand new regional hub aimed at improving gender balance and promoting diversity in science and engineering in the North East will be launched this month.

The WISE (Women in Science and Engineering) campaign’s new North East Hub will have its first meeting at Northumbrian Water’s Boldon House, in Pity Me, Durham, on Thursday 29 September.

Speakers at the event will include Northumbrian Water’s Chief Executive, Heidi Mottram OBE, as well as Suzy Firkin, Director of the national WISE campaign.

Women from across the North East’s science and engineering sector, as well as anybody responsible for promoting diversity within businesses in the industry, are welcome to attend the event, which runs from 3pm to 5pm.

Heidi Mottram commented:

“As a company that embraces diversity in the workforce, it’s great that Northumbrian Water is at the forefront of this new hub and helping to promote the work and messages of WISE in the North East.

“There are some great organisations across the region who are really embracing diversity and we want to bring them together with others so that their ideas and activities can be shared, hopefully inspiring more people to develop their own policies and practices in this important area.”

Suzy Firkin, Membership Director at WISE, saiid:

“We are delighted that Northumbrian Water and our other members in the region want to do more through the power of the WISE network to help boost the number of women working in science and engineering environments.”
