Balfour Beatty company wins £180 million of new contracts

Balfour Beatty, the international infrastructure group operating in construction services, professional services, support services and infrastructure investments, has announced today that Gammon Construction, the market-leading infrastructure contractor in Hong Kong, in which Balfour Beatty has a 50% shareholding, has been awarded two new contracts valued at HK $2.27 billion (£180 million).

The contracts are for the redevelopment of the Victoria Park swimming pool complex by the Architectural Service Department of the Hong Kong Government, valued at HK$930 million (£74 million), along with a HK$1.34 billion (£106 million) contract to construct Kennedy Town Station and overrun tunnels for MTR Corporation.

The Kennedy Town Station and overrun tunnels contract for MTR Corporation forms part of the West Island Line, delivering a new railway link to the Western district, which is one of the few remaining urban areas in Hong Kong that does not have a railway.

Commenting on the contract awards today, Balfour Beatty Chief Executive, Ian Tyler, said:

“We are delighted that Gammon has been selected by MTR Corporation and the Architectural Services Department of the Hong Kong Government to help deliver these high-profile contracts that will enhance local community facilities and infrastructure. Gammon, in partnership with its customers, is increasingly developing sustainable and responsible solutions to help deliver infrastructure projects. ”
