Yorkshire Water and its contract partners Mott MacDonald Bentley have confirmed work is progressing well on the £750,000 project to repair a stretch of sewage pipe which runs along Whitby Harbour.
On Wednesday last week Mott MacDonald Bentley completed the first full concrete encasement of a five meter stretch of pipe. In addition, work to create a concrete base for the pipe to rest on is also progressing well with two thirds of the base - around 48 meters - now in place.
"We're really pleased with the progress we're making and delighted to have the first total encasement of a five meter stretch of the pipe completed," commented Miles Cameron, sewerage asset manager at Yorkshire Water.
Work is also ongoing on Yorkshire Water's £350,000 project to build a computerised 3D model of the entire Whitby sewage system, which is expected to be complete by the end of 2011.
