SSE Water joins Water UK

SSE Water, which provides water and sewerage services to large scale household developments and business customers across the UK through Inset Agreements, has joined Water UK, the body which represents UK water companies at national and EU level.

According to Water UK the water industry is changing, with a more customer-focused approach to setting prices and with all business, public sector and charity customers due to have a choice of supplier from April 2017. The organisation said that with new members, Water UK is also changing and aiming to reflect and represent the full diversity of the industry as it evolves.

SSE Water was granted its first inset appointment in October 2007 and currently has over 20 water inset areas, establishing it as the market leader outside of the incumbent water company network.

Pamela Taylor, Chief Executive of Water UK, commented:

"I am delighted SSE Water has joined Water UK. Our growing membership demonstrates that we are open to all companies in the industry, whether they are large established names or smaller challengers.”

"SSE Water will give us different perspectives and new ideas, and will benefit from working in closer partnership with our existing members. Together, we will continue to bring people together to create better policies for the future of water - an industry that provides world-leading water quality and wastewater services and attracts multi-billion pounds of investment, creating and securing jobs, and supporting business growth, house-building and tourism."

Nathan Sanders, Managing Director of SSE Enterprise Utilities, said:

"Joining Water UK is a natural step as we continue to grow our business. There are lots of changes happening in the sector, and joining Water UK will allow us to contribute to and share in industry developments."
