Low Carbon Hub seeks abstraction licences for hydropower scheme

The Low Carbon Hub C.I.C. has applied to the Environment Agency for 2 abstraction licences for a hydropower generation scheme.

One application is for a full licence to abstract water from the River Thames between 1 April and 31 March inclusive in each year:

  • 91,800 cubic metres an hour
  • 2,203,200 cubic metres a day
  • 660,960,000 cubic metres a year

The water will be used for hydro-electric power production via 3 Archimedean Screw Turbines. All water abstracted will be returned to the River Thames.

The Low Carbon Hub C.I.C. has also applied to the Agency for a transfer licence to abstract water from the River Thames which will be used for a Larinier technical fish pass and a nature-like fish and eel pass.
