Leading global water technology company Xylem Inc. has reported that its solutions helped to reduce the energy consumption of a wastewater treatment plant in Italy by 65%.
According to a comparison study conducted by Comopedur, which operates the plant, Xylem’s Flygt 4530 submersible mixers enabled the savings at the facility.
Luigi Cece, director of the Comodepur plant said:
“We are committed to working with innovative and efficient technology to minimize costs for our customers. The new Flygt mixers have significantly reduced annual operating costs at the plant and have paid for themselves within just 13 months.”
Located in the Lake Como region of northern Italy, the Comopedur plant treats 16 million cubic meters of wastewater annually, serving a population of approximately 200,000. Treated water from the plant is discharged into Lake Como. The plant’s size and location in a heavily populated area underscore the importance of reliability and consistency in the plant’s wastewater treatment process.
Xylem replaced the existing mixers with new, mid-size energy-efficient Flygt 4530 submersible mixers, which feature a robust, high-efficiency propeller specifically designed for biological wastewater treatment applications.
Due to the significant energy and cost savings resulting from the installation, Comodepur ordered an additional three Flygt 4530 mixers to replace mixers in another equalization tank.
