WRc has assembled a stimulating group of expert speakers for its forthcoming Innovation Day on 27th April - and places at the event are running out fast.
Simon Walker from Candover Consulting Ltd will make the keynote presentation based around WRc’s theme Sharing Knowledge for a Changing World and talk on “Future Proofing Your Organisation - The Future of Work and Leadership”
An expert in future focused leadership, team and organisational development, Simon Walker’s particular interest is the impact of technology and social media on the world of work and in particular how this affects leadership and organisational design. He draws on first-hand leadership experience which includes leading teams on arctic expeditions and round the world yacht races as well as business experience.
He is also an expert on Generational Diversity - the differing expectations, preferences and attitudes of different generations and co-author of several reports including ’Generation Y: what they want from work’.
The characteristics of sustainable, competitive organisations in water, gas and waste sectors are among a number of key issues his talk will address.
The Circular Economy is the subject of discussion by two of the Day’s other keynote speakers. Earlier this month WRc hosted a ½ day interactive workshop to explore the UK’s transition to a circular economy for the utilities and infrastructure.
Jon Brigg, Manager of Innovation, Yorkshire Water will describe the development of a significant and ground breaking project which integrates water, waste and resource recovery opportunities in a systemic approach. The project aim is to inform and physically demonstrate opportunities in customer value and service, industrial symbiosis, business resilience and societal and environmental benefit.
His current challenge at Yorkshire Water is to build and drive a programme of transformational innovation projects built upon the principles of circular economy and aggregation. The outcome will be to lead progress toward delivering Yorkshire Water's vision of 'taking responsibility for the water environment for good' via its Strategic Business Objectives and Performance Commitment targets.
Ian McAulay, Chief Executive of Viridor and Executive Director of Pennon Group will talk on The Circular Economy - a Driving Force for Change. Prior to joining Viridor, he was Chief of Global Strategy and Corporate Development with MWH Global based in the US and previously Managing Director, Capital Programmes, at United Utilities.
Delegates will also hear Eileen Linklater, Client Relationship & Marketing Manager at the European Marine Energy Centre talk on the theme of Innovate, Collaborate, Generate – A Pathway to Commercialisation for New Technologies. Based in Orkney, EMEC is the world’s leading research and test centre for marine renewable energy – testing new machines that generate electricity from waves and tide.
Linklater is the first point of contact for prospective clients and works with them from initial contact through to arrival on site. In her time at EMEC, she has worked with 18 different wave and tidal technology companies from 9 different countries.
The Centre has become a global focal point for the emerging marine renewables industry as Orkney has become home to some of the most innovative marine energy technologies currently in development.
