Conference to focus on surface water treatment Best Practice

A one-day conference focusing on best-practice in surface water treatment is being hosted by sustainable drainage specialists Hydro International, bringing together a distinguished panel of expert speakers to highlight problems and solutions for the effective delivery of surface water quality.

“Surface Water Management – Implementing Quality” will be held at The National Self Build & Renovation Centre, Swindon on April 17th.

“We are getting used to the idea of Sustainable Drainage Systems – or SuDS to manage water quantities and flows in surface water runoff, but, for many, surface water treatment remains more of a challenge,” explained Alex Stephenson Director of Hydro International’s UK Stormwater division.

“With changes in regulation just around the corner, finding practical and affordable ways to treat surface water runoff is no longer a ‘nice to have’ – it’s fast becoming an imperative. However, there remain many questions about what’s needed to deliver SuDS treatment pragmatically and cost-effectively.”

A comprehensive programme has been developed with highly-respected representatives from the Environment Agency, local authority drainage specialists, developers, consulting engineers, specialist design software providers and academia for the event.

Water quality standards driven by the EU Water Framework Directive have led to new regulation including the implementation of new National SuDS Standards for England and Wales in early 2014. Speakers will explore legislative requirements and technical design challenges, as well as outlining workable solutions through real-life case studies. The conference aims to demonstrate how surface water treatment has been successfully incorporated in viable, contemporary SuDS schemes.
