NI Water is holding a public information event tomorrow to set out its plans for the second phase of a major flood alleviation scheme.
The water company is currently completing the detailed design of a large-scale flood alleviation project for the Upper Newtownards Road area of Belfast.
The infrastructure project will involve the upgrade of existing and installation of new sewers, as well as sewers within some other residential streets in the area. It is being undertaken to resolve ongoing internal and external flooding issues and when complete, will increase the capacity of the existing sewerage system in the area and reduce the risk of ‘out of sewer’ flooding and environmental pollution.
NI Water intends to use ‘no-dig’ trenchless techniques for two proposed major crossings of the Upper Newtownards Road.
The project is being programmed to finish in advance of the implementation of the new Belfast Rapid Transport (BRT) system in September 2018.
Ray Moulds, Sales Director at Flood Control International, takes a look at how automated sliding floodgates are supporting secondary containment at water and sewerage company sites.
