New Chief Executive at Water UK

Water UK, the organisation which represents the UK water companies at national and EU level,  has appointed Michael Roberts, currently Chief Executive of the Association of Train Operating Companies and Director-General of the Rail Delivery Group, as its next Chief Executive.

Mott MacDonald has begun design work on the £19 million Sheffield Lower Don Valley flood defence project, one of the largest flood protection schemes in the UK.

A £1.8 million project by Scottish Water to improve its waste water infrastructure and tackle flooding which has affected a number of properties in part of Clydebank is about to start.

Bristol Water has published an update  on its website explaining about the risks posed by the cryptosporidium parasite in the water supply system and the actions the company has taken in the last five years to tackle  the problem.

Wessex Water has lifted the “boil water” notice it issued to around 250 properties in the Bratton Seymour, Shepton Montague, Yarlington, and Maperton areas as a precautionary measure on Tuesday after it found the water supply was not of its usual standard.

Five of the UK water companies have put out a tender for a contract for the supply of liquid hexafluorosilicic acid used to fluoridate tap water worth potentially up to £4.8 million.

United Utilities is using both wind and solar power at its Fleetwood sewage works in Lancashire - part of the Warrington-based water group’s multi-million pound strategy to generate 35% of its own electricity.

Innovate UK, the government's innovation agency, together with the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) are seeking to stimulate exploitation of the high-performance material graphene by investing £2.5 million in feasibility studies.

Turnover at BAM Nuttall Ltd, the UK civil engineering arm of Royal BAM Group nv,  rose to £774 million in 2014 compared with £756 million in 29013, but the firm posted a £20 million loss for the period, according to the latest report and accounts filed with Companies House yesterday.
