Arup strengthens US water business

Arup has moved to stregthen its water business in the Americas with the appointment of Janine Witko as New York Water Business Leader.

ONS_8_FEB_copyThe Civil Engineering Contractors Association (CECA) today said that output figures for the construction industry in Q4 2012 show a welcome return to growth, but that the sector continues to face challenging trading conditions.

 

£294 million will be invested in flood risk management this year as 93 new flood defences get the go ahead for construction, the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) announced today.

 

Cambridge Water is seeking views from customers to assist the formulation of its next five-year business plan in a project entitled ‘Your CH2Oice’.

 

The Institution of Civil Engineers has said that increasing water bills will not solve UK water issues and is calling on the UK Government – including the Welsh, Scottish and Northern Ireland Assemblies - to create a UK Water Security Task Force.

 

Renewed urgency in implementing much-needed Sustainable Drainage systems that tackle surface water flooding can be achieved by adopting a more realistic and pragmatic understanding of the techniques available, drainage experts are urging.

The entry deadline for applications for the Institute of Water Northern Area Innovation Awards 2013 is close of play at the end of this week.

Water industry regulator Ofwat has announced this morning that the average household water and sewerage bill in England and Wales will increase by 3.5%.

 

 

Lack of expertise in local authorities, the need for a high profile public awareness campaign and the need for regulating building companies providing flood defence solutions were just three of the issues flagged up at a roundtable conference on flooding held in December.

New water infrastructure initiative launched

Leading NGO the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and the International Water Association (IWA) have launched a major new water infrastructure initiative launched aimed at building partnerships for innovation in water, food, and energy security.
