MacroAsia Corporation has awarded Biwater a project to design and construct a 10 million litres per day water treatment plant for the district of Solano in the Nueva Vizcaya province in the Philippines.
Biwater’s package water treatment plant – ‘BiPAK’ – will deliver World Health Organisation (WHO) quality drinking water and serve an urban population of over 60,000.
The project is part of an effort to provide potable water to the entire population of Solano for the first time, to sustain its continued development. Although there is a water source from the Magat River – the largest tributary of the Cagayan River – there is no existing water treatment and distribution system to provide for the 60,000 local residents and businesses with a readily available and quality supply of potable water.
The benefits of the BiPAK package water treatment plant include:
- modular configuration
- easily scalable
- robust and efficient process
- reduced construction costs
- reduced operating costs
Commenting on the award of the contract and the BiPAK design, Mr. Louis Katada of MacroAsia Corporation said:
“We are delighted with Biwater’s overall design, along with the low capital and operating costs of the facility, which will be constructed in the coming months to deliver water to the local community in record time.”
Biwater provides large-scale water and wastewater solutions for clients across the world. Since its inception in 1968, Biwater has completed over 25,000 projects in over 90 countries – financing, consulting, process engineering, designing, constructing, operating, maintaining and owning water facilities – in both rural and urban environments.
In Asia Pacific, Biwater has completed over 240 projects to date. Eight successful projects in Indonesia alone have provided 374 million litres per day (MLD) water treatment capacity.
Biwater identified the need to develop scalable water and wastewater treatment plants in the early 1970s. Since then, Biwater has expanded its package plant range to serve populations from 2,500 to over 60,000. The full package plant line includes:
• Biwater package water treatment plant (BiPAK)
• A unique tubular tower water treatment plant - Biwater Tower
• Biwater compact wastewater treatment plant (BiCOM)
• Containerised reverse osmosis plants
Biwater is separately currently in the process of commissioning a new desalination plant in Paraquita Bay in the British Virgin Islands. Once commissioned, the seawater desalination facility will generate 10,400 m3/day of treated water serving residents, tourists, cruise ships and industries on the island of Tortola, the largest and most populated island of the British Virgin Islands.
Last year the firm successfully completed a $43 million project financing with Barclays Bank for the project, which benefited from a 100 percent guarantee from ECGD, UK Export Credit Agency.
Biwater is also constructing wastewater facilities on the island as part of the ‘British Virgin Islands Water and Sewage Improvement Scheme’.
